Love can be very shallow these days. Surface love says “I love you because of the way you make me feel, or how others see me when I am with you.” True love is wanting the greatest good for the other person; wanting them to be as they were designed to be. We long for it, hope for it, drift in and out of relationships hoping to find it and we may go our whole lives searching for it. First, that kind of love is not directly found in another person. This kind of love is called agape love – God’s kind of love. We can only love another with this kind of love when we are learning to bear the beams of God’s agape love ourselves. When we are in that loving dance with Christ daily, we can love others as God intended – for who they really are and wherever they are at. We look on the outside but God sees the heart and He can help us to see the heart of another; to truly love them from the inside out.
